About us

Hag Films was founded in response to two urgent requirements voiced by commissioners – the creation of compelling climate stories, and the positive representation of women over 40 on screen and behind the camera.

Cat Muir has over 20 years’ experience as a writer and script editor consulting on and developing book adaptations, script editing HETV series and writing / editing international productions.

Sharon Burrell is a climate psychology adviser specialising in the impact eco-storytelling has on human behaviour. The first of her short film scripts, GLITCHED, is doing the 2025 festival circuit, produced by Making Productions. THE FOLKESTONE LADIES’ EROTIC FICTION CLUB, a short film and proof of concept for a TV series, shoots in June 2025, directed by Emmy Award winner Emelie Mahdavian.

Sharon Burrell

Sharon Burrell is a screenwriter and Cognitive Behavioural Coach with extensive experience in developing new writers for stage and screen.

Her work explores the impact of storytelling on our relationship with the environment based on her climate psychology research.

Cat Muir

Cat Muir is a writer and script editor with over 20 years of experience in film and TV. Her work in development spans guiding new writers to find their authentic voices, to polishing work by established names to make it ready for production. As a writer, Cat creates genre based work centring the midlife experience of women.

Incubator

Outlined below is a selection of projects currently supported through the Incubator, including a short film, a TV series, and a feature-length horror project that reshape perspectives on climate and midlife women.

The Folkestone Ladies’ Erotic Fiction Club

A sexy dramedy about midlife female desire, set in Folkestone. The short film is in pre-production for 2026 festivals. TV series bible available on request.

Friction

Fast-paced eco-thriller where women in midlife clash with global finance and fossil fuel powers. Led by a bold black female protagonist. Details on request.

Flow

A horror exploring female rage and transformation when a 55 year old woman goes looking for herself and finds monsters in a dark tale that echoes Prevenge and Midsommar.

Nano

A 78 year old gamer finds a new life away from her tech-saturated reality when she takes an unexpected journey through Esports, AI and the timeless game of Go. Bittersweet and philosophical.

Rockpooling

In a coastal town, a hacker shelters a refugee. AI goes wrong. A twisted tale of survival, climate justice, and deeply dark humour. Inspired by Misery.

Glitched

An AI mogul must outwit billionaires – and her husband – to save the planet. Sexy, fast-paced, apocalyptic satire. Proof of concept in post-production.
