Flow

Written by Cat Muir

Flow is about what happens when you go looking for yourself and find monsters.

Themes of rage, grief, revenge and change swirl throughout but there’s also humour in the darkness echoing films such as Prevenge, The Substance and Midsommar.

Min Olmstead is a 50 something woman working in a world that’s getting younger by the minute and she’s losing touch. Soon she descends into a spiral that culminates in her losing everything, including her uterus. Min walks out of a life that no longer fits her and is swept into a rural utopia – everything here is lovely. But nothing is ever quite as it seems in idyllic villages in the middle of nowhere Britain.

As Min joins the other women of the village in an ancient ritual – a swim down the river to the sea – it becomes clear that their ‘change’ is not the same as the change she’s going through. When faced with the true horror of her situation, Min finds herself alone again, facing a stark choice which she embraces with unstoppable force.
