Nano
Created by Cat Muir
Lost in Translation meets Wild Strawberries in a bitter-sweet comedy about how to live in a world that thinks you should probably have died already.
Set in the present day, Nano tells the story of a 78 year old woman who has embraced tech as a replacement for all that is missing in her life. With her every physical need met by nano-technology so that she will live, if not forever, then significantly longer than she planned, her mind is left free to travel across time and space as one of the world’s top online gamers. It’s a journey that will lead her to South Korea and, eventually, back to her authentic self when she meets her match in a man who lost everything at the hands of AI.
Moving from the intense, frantic halls of a professional E-sport tournament to the enlightenment of the game of Go, Nano explores connection, humanity and the places we will go. By taking a step back from the brink of technology and diving into one of the oldest of humanity’s games, Nano explores the past’s influence on the present, the idea that once a move has been played, it can’t be taken back but also that from that move, however wrong, there are countless possibilities to go forward – and it’s never too late to make that move. There is always transition.
Nano weaves themes of redemption, lost memories, the healing power of nature and love into a rich tapestry that crosses generational and geographical boundaries to explore all the possibilities that life has to offer us.
