Rockpooling

Proof of concept for a recurring TV series

Created by Sharon Burrell

In an abandoned coastal town, a hacker surfaces from the dark web to invite a refugee into her home. Dreams of a safe haven turn into a darkly comedic nightmare when an experiment in AI goes badly wrong.

ROCKPOOLING is a dark comedy horror, the audience peering into this microcosm of what remains when the sea retreats.

The story follows Kate’s discovery of all the levels that need to be completed in the game of life – physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual – thanks to her relationship with Danny, made homeless by the latest “once in a lifetime” storm.

Echoing classic horror movies such as Misery and Frankenstein, the film explores what happens when two characters are inextricably tied together, codependent, but also fighting for their own survival. Infused with a dash of deeply dark humour, the film makes it possible to explore the themes of climate justice and the ethics of artificial intelligence without becoming preachy or depressing.
